SUBJECT:     Discussion of Adopting a Resolution Requiring Academic Tutoring for City

Police Athletic League Participants with a 2.0 Grade Point Average or Lower

I would like to place an item on the June 4, 2008 agenda for discussion that youths participating in the City’s Police Athletic League (PAL) sports program whose grade point average is 2.0 or lower be required to receive academic tutoring.

Too often the importance of academics can be overlooked by our athletes.  I feel it is imperative that our youth be provided with a foundation to give them the best future we can.  Requiring academic tutoring will help ensure that they are given that foundation.

I thank my fellow commissioners for the anticipated support of this most important issue.
